Scoring

In each question, give yourself a score of 0 for the first answer; 1 for the second answer; 2 for the third answer, and so on. For example, in question 1, if you ticked ‘occasionally’, that’s answer number 2, so you get 1 point.

If you scored –

  • 0 to 3: It’s unlikely that your drinking is harmful to you
  • 4 to 7: It’s unlikely that your drinking is hazardous, but you should check and remain within the recommended safe limits of alcohol, to be sure your drinking does not cause you health problems.
  • 8 to 10: It’s possible that your drinking is becoming harmful to your health, and you should ensure that your alcohol intake is within the recommended safe limits, and seek further professional evaluation.
  • 10 to 14: It’s likely that your drinking is harmful to your health, and you should seek further professional evaluation.
  • 15 to 19: Your score is believed to indicate a problem with drinking, it’s likely to be harming your health and well-being, and you should seek further professional evaluation.
This questionnaire is only a basic first guide, and cannot replace a professional consultation; if you are in any doubt about your drinking you should always contact a professional.
